Currently carrying out a major archaeological study of one of Africa’s largest empires in the early modern period—the Oyo Empire.

I am interested in the deep history of Africa and its implications for the African Diaspora and the contemporary world. I grew up in an African environment where elders used their ancestral history and philosophy every day to teach the young, solve problems, and imagine a better future. I’m following in their footsteps. My research interests are transdisciplinary, combining archaeology, oral traditions, cultural repertoire, and physical sciences. My courses, including African Civilization, African Diaspora Theory, and Yoruba Language and Culture, expose students to the use of African epistemology and ontology for critical inquiry, self-understanding, and social transformation.  I’m currently carrying out a major archaeological study of one of Africa’s largest empires in the early modern period—the Oyo Empire. I welcome students to join me in this inquiry.
